I did not discover the artistic side of me until I was in my thirties, when I decided to go to an art class to see if I could draw. I started drawing like everyone else in the class then came time to paint, I was very fortunate to have a teacher who recognised that my art was in the Naive style. He had always wanted to paint in a naive style but it can’t really be taught. He said, sit in the corner (not literally!) and don’t listen to anything I tell the class, as he didn’t want to change the way I painted. Luckily I had the encouragement and help from a teacher that wasn’t going to try and change me.
23 years ago I settled down in the beautiful Southern Highlands, Bowral and started to paint seriously. I am very much influenced by Matisse and David Hockney, love David Hockney! Colour is so important to me. I could not imagine my life without it. I also enjoy hand building ceramics, each piece being a one off with hand painted scenes and some flower paintings lately.
I have participated in the Southern Highlands Art Studio Trail for the last 4 years and will again for the upcoming trail in 2020. My ceramics and paintings are available for sale from my studio in our backyard. Contact me at any time as I am now full time in my studio.
